The Structure and Function of the Porthmawr SLSC Committee

A committee is the legal face of an organisation nominated and agreed upon its membership body. Their function is to ensure the safe financial and legal operation of the organisation and its membership.


Some of the powers entitled to the executive committee of Porthmawr Surf Lifesaving Club are:

  • power to act as a co‐ordinating body and to co‐operate with the local authority, planning
    committees, sanitary, drainage and all other local and statutory authorities, voluntary
    organisations, charities and persons having aims similar to those of the Club;

  • power to promote or assist in promoting activities of a charitable nature throughout the area of
    benefit;power to make surveys and prepare maps and plans and collect information in relation to any
    place, erection or building within the area of benefit;

  • power to hold meetings, lectures and exhibitions;

  • power to educate public opinion and to give advice and information to residents and tourists in
    the area of interest as and when requested;

  • power to take and accept any gifts of property, whether subject to any special trusts or not;

  • power to borrow or raise money for the objects of the Charity on such terms and on such security
    as the Executive Committee shall think fit, but so that the liability of individual members of the
    Charity shall in no case extend beyond the amount of their respective annual subscriptions.

All positions on the executive committee are relinquished at the end of each year, but previous encumbants of committee posts can seek re-election at the annual general meeting.

Nominations for committee posts must be forwarded to the club secretary fourteen days prior to the AGM so that details may be circulated to the membership body.
